I'm always amazed every time a business calls us that just bought some cloud based POS system for their retail store and it does not handle EBT transactions. We see it time and time again where the flashy cloud based tablet system cant process a transaction with EBT sorting. Cash Registers have been sorting food stamp transactions for years, it is really rather simple. Here is how it works; we program the department button or the UPC to be Food Stamp eligible even if that department or UPS is taxable. Now that the register knows which UPC's or department sales are EBT eligible we can ring in all items in a sale at the same time regardless of how a customer is going to pay. If your POS system can't sort EBT then you need another system
A system that sorts EBT items in a transaction saves you time, money and possibly fines. If you leave it up to your cashiers to determine what is eligible and what is not you can set your business up for some trouble. Take it out of the cashiers hands with a good system. If you get caught accepting EBT for non EBT eligible items you are going to get in trouble and could have your ability to accept EBT taken away for awhile.
