When you buy a cash register make sure you are buying from a dealer that can help you after the sale should you ever need support for example when your local sales tax rate increases. That does not mean that support is always free, however make sure it is available. Every day we hear from people that bought disposable cash registers from the big box stores, they call us for support which most often we can't help with and even if we could there is a fee for that.

The top commercial registers sold in North America are Sharp cash registers models starting with ER or UP and of course the SAM4s cash registers which have many options for all types of stores and restaurants.

Most of these sites feature cash registers with credit card readers that also process gift cards too. They almost always use the Datacap Twin Tran interface.

SAM4s cash register keyboard templates

It is very handy to have a keyboard template when programming your SAM4s cash register. A good dealer will give you one when your purchase your machine. If they are charging you even ten dollars for it then find another place to buy your machine because they are just charging you for fluff that all dealers we given for free.

There are a handful of SAM4s cash register keyboard templates available for free down load. As a rule we only give the templates to those customers that purchased the cash register from us. Following are a few companies that will give you the template and the utility software (if available) for free when you buy from these companies and again if your dealer is not giving you the keyboard template and/or the free software then find another dealer!

The cash register guys offer the make your own keyboard template for free when you buy a SAM4s cash register from them. They also offer the software for free if available with the model you buy.

POS and Cash Registers also will provide you with a keyboard template when you buy a SAM4s cash register from them and the software as well.

And there is also Pro Cash Register who offer free shipping on most machines and will also email you the template to make your own custom keyboard when you buy your SAM4s cash register from them.

Don't forget to check out the dealer in advance, call them and see if they know what they are talking about. Make sure their business is cash registers and not everything under the sun!

Which cash register should I buy A420 or SPS-320

Well first point is both of these are great cash registers. Both have some very strong points to be made for them. Not really fair to compare however because the Sharp ER-A420 has been around a long time before some of the newest features of the SAM4s SPS-320 was being used in the industry.

Both cash registers feature a large flat keyboard. The SAM4s keyboard is a little large. Both can interface to credit card payments with the Datacap Twin Tran, both can interface to PC Poll cash register software.

the Sharp ER-A420 has a history of being incredibly durable and is a heavy duty machine for sure. The SAM4s line up as a whole has a great track record of being reliable.

Couple huge advantages of the SAM4s SPS-320 include the SD card port for program back up and flash ROM upgrades, free software and the eight line LCD display.

If I already had the Sharp ER-A420 I would stick with them for a while since you would have no learning curve with operations, if starting with a cash register for the first time go with the SAM4s.

SAM4s SPS-500 series styles

The SAM4s SPS-500 series is made up of 4 different cash register models. Two of them have flat keyboards designed for restaurants and the other two have raised keys designed for retail operations.

Both the flat and raised keyboard models have a choice of a model with a receipt only and a model with a receipt and journal.

The models break down as follows

• SAM4s SPS-520 FT (flat keyboard receipt and journal)
• SAM4s SPS-520 RT (raised keyboard receipt and journal)
• SAM4s SPS-530 FT (flat keyboard receipt only)
• SAM4s SPS-530 RT (raised keyboard receipt only)

All of the models feature the 7" touch screen, SD card port, keyboard interface, Datacap Twin Tran interface, and all the other interfaces standard with these models.

Free cash registers with credit card interface

Is there such a thing as a free cash register? Well kinda. There are two companies that supply cash registers when you use them for merchant services. There are several different levels of service. One offer from Harbor Touch offers an entry level cash register with a credit card interface when you sign up for merchant services with them. Although it is called Free there are some cost however minimal for what you are getting. The Casio offer is $79.00 per year plus shipping. For that fee they give you a cash register that is custom programmed for you, twenty-four hour a day support and a free gift card program.

Another popular program is offered by Mercury Payments. Their program allows you to chose one of the SAM4s 900 series cash registers, the ER-920, ER-925, ER-940 or the ER-945. All you pay in $12.50 per month for the credit card interface which is a Datacap Twin Tran. Mercury also will include a free gift card program which can be very valuable for you. There is also a program with Mercury that includes custom programming and support for an additional $20.00 per month.

SAM4s ER-290 cash register

The SAM4s ER-290 cash register is a great entry level cash register. This register features a heavy duty five bill five coin cash drawer and a customer display. Before buying you should consider a few things this cash register does not have. The register DOES NOT have ALPHA print, some people don't card some do! This machine features a single station printer not a receipt and journal, if this is important to you this is not the right machine. Lastley this cash register does not have an interface with the Datacap credit card terminal.

Need a SAM4s ER-650 cash register?

The SAM4s ER-650 was one of the best selling cash registers we have seen in many years. Like all good things the ER-650 has come to an end. The factory is no longer making them however if you still need one or two then don't despair because the "Cash Register Guys, and POS and Cash Registers still have them available in the form of a ER-650 Modified.

The ER-650 Modified is a ER-650R converted to a ER-650 by changing the Roms and the keyboard. So the case will read 650R the machine is really a 650 version. The reason is there are still plenty of the raised keyboard versions available and after the Roms and keyboard is changed they really are the classic 650 machines everyone loves.

Or if you are ready to modernize you may want to check out the replacement's to the 650 line up the SPS-300 series. (above the the SAM4s SPS-340 cash register) There are some great reasons to upgrade to the 300 series and the biggest one is they feature SD card ports which was missing on the 650 series. Now you can save and load a program, download reports, and change Roms all with the SD card port, which is a huge step forward.
