Should you pay for programming when you buy a new cash register?

 

We can program your SAM4s cash register when you buy it.

Get the most from your new cash register and save hours of your time by having us program the register before we ship it to you. The way the process works is first you select the model you want and place your order with custom programming. We will then send you a programming worksheet for the model you ordered. You will complete that form and return to us. That form includes all the information we need to custom program and label your new register. That programming includes tax rates, department names, discounts, payment types, receipt message, graphic logo and more.

Our programming also comes with six months support

One reason our customers have so much success with their new register programmed by us is because this service also includes six months of telephone support. When you first receive your new cash register we will schedule a time with you to teach you how to use your new register. After that initial training you can call and get any of your questions answered that arise as you start using your new cash register. Even if you tax rate increases or you need to make a change and cant recall how, you can call us in those first six months for free (during  our regular business hours). All of this is included in you programming fee. If you did not buy our custom programming service and need help we can still do that for you it would just be chargeable by the half hour. Do you need technical assistance for your SAM4s Cash Register

Well you are in luck, we do offer support over the phone for all of the SAM4s models. You might be amazed at how much we can do over the phone and of course with one of the more advanced systems we can log in remotely. Before you call please understand we do charge for this support. At the time of this post July 2024 we charge $130.00 per hour with a $70 minimum for thirty minutes. We do charge regardless of the outcome of the call but in most cases we are successful in 30 to 60 minutes. We will attempt to vet you problem in advance to make sure it should be resolvable over the phone.

What will you need to have us help you with your cash register over the phone 

You will need to have a phone at your cash register, you will want to have the programming key and maybe even the service mode key (marked C). When you call to set up the support call please make sure you know the model number of the SAM4s as there are probably twenty different models. Also when you call to arrange a support call we rarely have time to do it when you phone in and we will schedule an appointment with you and a support technician. How to backup your SAM4s SAP-630R and SAP-630F

Making backups is an important part of managing your point of sale system. There is no reason to neglect this task especially when it is so easy to do. This video is for making an on-the-fly back up to a flash drive, but there are other methods you should be doing as well and we will make some videos of those soon. How often you back up your system is up to you of course but the more the better. One of the reasons we were motivated to create the videos this week was having a client that just had their cash register stolen right off the counter. When they recovered it sadly it was in pieces. If you are using these systems as standalone terminals which is popular you may not have any other back up if you elected not to back up in an automated process (which we recommend). Backing up your Database on the SAP-6600 terminal running SAM4pos

 

Now you don't have an excuse for not having a backup of your SAM4pos system on the SAP-6600

You never want to find yourself needing a back up and not having one. So we have created a video to show you how to create a back up on the fly using a flash drive. There are other ways of making a back up with this system and you should be making those on a schedule but in the meanwhile if you are not make certain you make this one from time to time. It's is easy to and you only need a flash drive.

Exporting your database from the SAM4s SPS-520R Register to another system

Export your UPC Database from the SPS-520 Register


We can assist you in an UPC Export from a SAM4s Register

As the popular legacy model SAM4s SPS-520R becomes older we are receiving more and more request from current users to retrieve their UPC Database. This makes a lot of sense of course because you could have many years of UPC items in your register that took hours to create. However, before you just run out and try to create this file there are some things you need to know. We speak to end-users weekly about this very subject so below please find a FAQ about this topic.

  1. First, the good news. Yes you can have a CSV file of your UPC database created from this register.
  2. The bad news is, NO the register can not produce a usable Database on its own, it is not that simple.
  3. Yes even though the register has a USB port and you can back the data up to a flash drive, that is a proprietary database and on it's own won't work. 
  4. Software is required to produce the UPC file you are looking for. The chances of you owning that software is very slim. No the software is not free and it's unlikely you will want to buy it just for this purpose. 
  5. Yes, we provide this service and here is how we do it. You make a back up of the register on a Flash Drive, you email us that file, we take that file and upload into the software, we produce the CVS file, we email you the CSV file. No it is not free unless you are buying a new system from us. If you are moving to a system that has nothing to do with this we charge five hours of labor to complete this.
  6. Keep in mind, we will be exporting what the register contains. That data may or may not match the fields you wish to import in. That has zero to do with our exporting of the data.
  7. Keep in mind the SPS-500 series does not store leading Zeros in a UPC number, you must deal with that in your new system and people do it all the time.

If you are upgrading to one of the new SAM4s products like the SAP-630R then we will import your data for no charge. Please read that again, no we don't just do this for free, you are required to buy a new system from us if you want to have this done for no cost.  Also if you are calling us to arrange this to use the data in another system, no problem but when you contact us please just tell us what you are doing so we can cut to the chase. We have no problem performing the work for you for a fee. Please don't call and act like a customer just trying to get a file of your prices etc. We know every time what you are asking for and we will both save time if you are just honest. It happens every week and waste our time and yours.

Adjust the screen contrast on the SAM4s SPS-300 series registers



This happens to be one of the SAM4s troubleshooting calls we get every day. The cashier screen on one of the following models has gone blank. This happens to the SPS-320, SPS-340 and the SPS-345 but the cashier has no idea what caused it or how to fix. The good news is in my experience 99% of the time the cashier has inadvertently adjusted the contrast so much the screen can no longer be read. Good news is there is nothing broken, just adjust the contrast and you are good to go again. Check out the video for the directions.
